Sending XRP costs just 0.00001 XRP per transaction. The fee is automatically burned to keep the network spam-free. No validators receive payment — the network stays neutral and decentralized.
The XRP Ledger uses a load-based fee system. Under normal conditions the fee is fixed at 0.00001 XRP (10 drops). When the network approaches its transaction capacity — around 200 transactions per ledger — the fee curve rises exponentially to throttle excess demand. Ripple CTO David Schwartz confirmed in March 2026 that this spike mechanism is intentional: it preserves ledger stability without requiring human intervention. Once demand drops, fees return to the baseline minimum automatically.
